Mon-Sun 11-18
The exhibition consists of carefully selected works and series from Smith’s studio, united by Smith’s characteristic playfulness and joy. Works on display include papercuts, paintings, reliefs and metal sculptures.
African-American artist and designer Howard Smith (1928-2021) was a distinguished honorary member of Onoma, who lived and worked in Fiskars for nearly 30 years. Smith moved to Finland as early as the 1960s and throughout his productive career combined different art forms and cultural traditions to create a style that was entirely his own, leaving his mark on both the history of Finnish art and Finnish interiors.
