Pasi Orrensalo is a photographic artist living in Fiskars and a fresh member of Onoma. Although the cityscape of Helsinki features several large-scale public works by him, in recent years his photographs have been exhibited more frequently in galleries across Europe than in his home country. Now, for the first time in a long while, his photographic art is on display in Finland, at Onoma’s Galleria360. For Orrensalo, photography is a way to tell stories through a lens shaped by his own worldview. The photographs he creates with great care—and sometimes with the help of cranes—depict a world full of humor and strong emotions. He does not edit his photographs, but instead lets the story take center stage. Orrensalo is known for working on projects over a long period of time, allowing the stories to develop at their own pace and the plotlines to branch out. Like all good storytellers, Orrensalo believes that the most important goal of his work is to stir emotions. Life is full of passion and joy, when viewed from the right angle. The current exhibition features images from two series Orrensalo worked on between 2015 and 2019: ‘Life Behind The Waste’ and ‘Born from Mud’. By photographing waste floating in the air, Orrensalo has sought to spark thoughts about the stories hidden behind. The *Born from Mud* series, meanwhile, was created in collaboration with choreographer and dancer Petri Kekoni.
